The Mclean Project for the Arts was founded by Joan Fisher in 1979 with a goal to provide an art center that would be accessible to both artists and members of the community. She wanted it to be open 7 days a week without charge so that anyone could come anytime they wanted or needed some inspiration or education. Her vision quickly became reality as she raised 50% from private donors.
